In June 2020 amidst the outbreak of COVID-19, Swindells was commissioned by Manchester International Festival and Paradise Works to design an interactive initiative that East Salford residents could take part in from home. In response, they invited residents of East Salford to digitally submit short videos, photos and writing which documented who they were and how they’d been living during lockdown.
Over five-weeks, the 150-plus contributions that were received ranged from phone-shot digital video to VHS tapes and poetry which were then edited into a collective portrait and personal record of life in the right-here, right-now of the coronavirus pandemic. Manchester International Festival premiered the film live on Youtube on 25th November 2020 as well as screening at MIF’s Festival Square in central Manchester on 3rd July 2021.
